Why Support Coast to Coast For Kids?

Some facts about the Tumbatin Clinic at Sydney Children's Hospital

3% of the population suffer from a developmental delay or disability. Commonly known as gross motor disabilities, these difficulties range from body movement through to hand-eye coordination and even social skills.
The Tumbatin Clinic was set up to provide a diagnostic and assessment service for children suspected of having a development problem or Autism. Over 350 children are assessed annually with a regular program to review and monitor the infant’s progress.
There is currently a 6 month waiting list for assessment. Parents must deal with the frustration of their child not receiving the appropriate services due to this delay in assessment. Early detection and treatment is the key to improving a child's ability to live a greater quality of life.
In addition to their assessment services, the Tumbatin Clinic provides parents with the skills required to deal with a special needs child. Many are overwhelmed with grief and need the clinics compassion and support to get through a difficult period.

Some facts about Bonnie Babes Foundation

Sadly, one in every four pregnancies ends in a loss from miscarriage or stillbirth
Over 17,000 (one in ten) babies are born prematurely each year in Australia, many of them often struggling for life.
1 in 6 couples (17%) are effected by infertility
The Bonnie Babes Foundation helps to save babies lives and counsel families through this extreme hardship
The Bonnie Babes Foundation was established in 1994 to raise vital public awareness and important funds for medical research and equipment and to counsel families after the loss of a baby

How your fundraising helps

Tumbatin Clinic

$600 is the cost for a doctor and social worker to undertake one 'Griffith Mental Development Test’
$800 is the cost for a doctor and a psychologist to undertake a development progress assessment for one child
$1,000 will provide a child with 10 speech therapy lessons
$1,000 will enable a Tumbatin Clinic case worker to hold 10 family support group sessions on a weekly basis

Bonnie Babes Foundation

$100 provides 10 grief books for families who have lost a baby
$250 will pay for one Fetal Fibronectin unit which detects a preterm labour and potentially save a baby’s life
$1,200 will pay for training and education of one new grief counsellor
$5,000 will pay for 12 months of phone counselling for families in rural areas across Australia
$20,000 will start a detailed and comprehensive research project

WELCOME TO THE COAST TO COAST FOR KIDS FUNDRAISING PAGE!

Coast to Coast for Kids is a 3,000km bicycle ride starting at the top of far north Queensland in Cooktown in mid August 2010 and finishing in Sydney in mid September 2010.

Founding members David Bonne and Scott Gilbertson, both novice cyclists, have been personally touched by life changing experiences attempting to start a family. Choosing charities close to their heart, the ride will raise much needed funding and awareness for the Sydney Children's Hospitals Tumbatin Clinic and the Bonnie Babes Foundation.
